Grandparent Scam
A "Grandparent Scam" was attempted on a Coos County resident Friday, March 1, in Coos Bay.  According to an entry on the Sheriff's log for 11:33 a.m. from Andrews Road, there was no loss of money.  "RP called family to confirm grandson was still in US. A male called claiming to be grandson, in jail following accident in rental car, ran stop sign in Panama City.  Attorney 'Frankie Gabriel Rodriguez Amada' requested wire $1,900 via Walmart Moneygram.  Unable to provide callback number because he was on the move taking care of things."  Information forwarded to Department of Justice via Consumer Complaint form on Internet.

Sweepstakes Scam
According to an entry on the Coos Co. Sheriff's log for Friday, March 1, 3:32 p.m., Trinity Lane, Coquille., "request number for subject in lobby reporting victim of NY sweepstakes scam.  Loss $950."  Information referred to Department of Justice Fraud.
